The present study examined the cross-sectional and longitudinal effects of the personality dimension of neuroticism and pain-related beliefs/coping strategies on depression, physical disability, complaint behaviours and medication consumption in 145 heterogenous chronic pain patients over a 9-month period. The results were analysed using a series of multiple hierarchical regression analyses which incorporate an attempt to achieve a balance for Type I and Type II errors. All of these analyses were controlled for age, gender, pain duration and pain intensity. The results indicated that the baseline measure of neuroticism was predictive of depression and complaint hehaviour nine months after the initial assessment. After controlling for the effects of neuroticism, the baseline measure of pain self-efficacy beliefs were predictive of depression, physical disability and complaint behaviour nine months after the initial assessment, After controlling for the effects of neuroticism, pain self-efficacy heliefs pain control appraisals and pain stability, the results of the study also support a link between the baseline measure of catastrophising and scores of depression as repoted at the baseline of the study and three months after the initial assessment. Finally, those patients who perceived higher levels of control over the pain at the baseline of the study reported less use of pain-related medication at the 6-month follow-up period. The potential signficance of these findings for identifying patients at risk of poor adjustment to chroi1c pain is discussed.

This research was carried out to compare the academic performance of the Sixth-semester stadents of the new educatoonal system, who have been guided to enter one of the five priorities designated through the educational guidance program. The sample consisted of’ 624 students, selected randomly, from the educational districts ‘of the city of Ahvaz, Iran, who could enter any one of the five priorities. These students were selected from the three fields of emperical sciences, mathematics-physics, and humanities. The students’ GPAs of their 3rd, 4th, and 5th semesters were used as their general academic performance index. Their 5th semester GPA was also used as their specific performance index. One way ANOVA and t-test were the major statistical analyses in this research. The findings showed no significant differences in the general or specific performances of the students entering any one of the five priorities, except for the students in the emperical sciences field, with regard to their general performance index. However, follow-up pair comparisons did not detect any significant difference.

The purpose of this research was to examine the relationship between perfectionism and psychological hardiness with mental health and academic performance. The sample consisted of 300 girls randomly selected from preuniversity schools of four educational districts in Ahvaz. Subjects were asked to fill out the Ahvaz Perfectionism Scale (APS), Ahvaz Hardiness Inventory• (AHI), and Symptom Checklist 90-Revised (SCL 90-R). Students’ GPAS for the previous three years and their GPAS for the last semester were used as their academic performance. The results of the research indicated that perfectionism had a negative relation with mental health, but no correlation with academic performance. Psychological hardiness had positive relations with mental health and academic performance. Moreover, multiple correlation coefficient between perfectionism and psychological hardiness and mental health were not significantly higher than their simple correlation coefficients. Multiple correlation coefficient of perfectionism and psychological hardiness and academic performance was significantly higher than simple correlation of each of the mentioned variables.

The aim of this study was to standardize the GoodenoughHarris Draw-a-woman Test on the elementary school students in the city of Bushehr in Iran. 260 female students in the six age-groups of 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 were selected randomly. using a one way ANOVA, indicated that the six age-groups differ signifcantly among themselves at the significant level of a=0I0l. Low but significant correlotion coefficients were found between the total sample’s scores on the Goodenough- Harris Test and the students’ grade point average of the first three months of the academic year. The reliability and validity coefficients of the two tests were acceptable.

Privatization has been a challenging issue in the last decades. privatization of schools like other subjects has been debated among education policy makers, economists, sociologists, politicians and government atuhorities. During the past years, Iran’s private schools have been considerably increased and gaining a growing reputation among families. After the new law of introducing the private schools by Ministry of Education from 1990 the number of private schools have increased and families have been allowed more choices for education of their children. what are the theoretical rationale and socio-economic philosophy of schools privatization? How much should the government get involved in this issue? How much privatization help and resolve schools problems? To whom are the school doors open? What factors have attracted families to welcom private schools? Whether private schools are able to provide the kind of education which is required for living in the global economy? In order to answer these questions, a historical-analytical approach has been used. In this relation, three schools of thought have been briefly studied here as the main causes of establishing private schools, namely; liberal theory, social justice and conflict theory. After that the history and causes of schools privatization in Iran were discussed.
