Abstract
Introduction
The family is the main core of every society and the center of maintaining people's health and mental health, and it is not the only place to meet the emotional, material, developmental and spiritual needs of its members, but the origin of human emotions and the center of the most intimate relationships and interactions. It is also interpersonal. the foundation of the family is formed based on the marriage contract between the husband and wife so that they can experience a peaceful and happy life together. Humans go through sensitive phases in their lives, and one of the critical and decisive phases is the issue of marriage and the formation of a common life, and more importantly, the efforts of each couple to maintain this common life so that they can reach their desired goals. but unfortunately, abundant evidence indicates that couples today Establishing and maintaining intimate and friendly relationships have severe and difficult problems. One of the common problems in couples' relationships that has attracted the attention of therapists is couples' conflicts. Conflict in relationships occurs when a person's behavior does not match the other person's expectations. marital conflicts provide important challenges for couples and their families and have negative consequences for couples. Among the factors that are affected by conflicts in the marital relationship are family cohesion and marital intimacy. The increase in marital conflicts and its negative effects on the mental health of couples and children have made researchers realize that they should think about finding ways to strengthen marital relations. In order to reduce marital problems in couples, one of these interventions is fairness-oriented contextual therapy. it should be noted that there has been no research on the effectiveness Fairness-based Contextual Therapy of specifically on Family Cohesion and Marital Intimacy of Conflicted Couples. Considering the negative consequences of conflicts on the individual lives of couples and their children, the necessity of dealing with treatments that target marital conflicts is felt. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effect of Fairness-based Contextual Therapy on the Family Cohesion and Marital Intimacy of Conflicted Couples.
Method
It was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest, post-test, control group, and three-month follow-up period design. The statistical population included all Conflicting couple who were referred to the Happy Life and Mobin Counseling Center in Tabriz City, Iran, in 2023-2024, of which 32 people were selected by the available sampling method and randomly assigned to two experimental (16 people) and control (16 people) groups. The data collection tools included the Family Cohesion Scale (Samani, 1381) and Marital Intimacy Questionnaire (Bagaroozi, 2001) The people in the experimental group were trained based on the Fairness-based Contextual Therapy during 10- to 60-minute sessions. Data analysis was also performed using the method of analysis of variance with repeated measurements.
Results
The obtained results showed that the average scores of the family cohesion and marital intimacy in the experimental group compared to the control group increased significantly in the post-test stage, and the average scores of perfectionism decreased significantly (P≤0.05). Also, the results indicated the permanence of the training effect for the family cohesion and marital intimacy over time.
Discussion
The results of this research showed that fairness-based contextual therapy can affect different aspects of life, including the family cohesion and marital intimacy. Therefore it is recommended, counselors and couple therapists use this treatment to improve the family cohesion and marital intimacy.
