Abstract
Depression is one of the most prevalent mental disorders among adolescents, which can have profound and long-lasting effects on their mental health and quality of life. During this sensitive period, significant hormonal, social, and cognitive changes expose adolescents to various stresses that can lead to the emergence of depressive symptoms. According to research, the rate of depression among adolescents is increasingly on the rise, raising serious concerns for mental health professionals and families. Depression during adolescence adolescence may show little interest in new activities and may no longer enjoy activities that were previously pleasant and enjoyable for them. They might also face academic problems, aggressive or anti-social behavior patterns (Mohammadi et al, 2012), it may lead to more severe disorders in adulthood. The relationship between spirituality and religion with mental health and well-being is not a new topic. In recent years, numerous studies have been conducted on religion and mental health (Allipour, 2019).
Religious beliefs provide a new perspective on the world for individuals with depression, fostering a kind of spiritual attachment. In fact, if we consider recovery as a liberation from the symptoms of illness and, on a broader level, as progress along the path of growth and perfection toward the realization of human potential, then religion and the teachings of Islam—being the most complete divine religion—possess a high capacity to harmonize and integrate the framework of a person's character and psyche, and to imbue life with meaning and purpose (Mehrabizadeh, Hashemi & Besaknejad, 2011). One of the most influential factors on depression, which also plays a key role in the selection and effectiveness of treatment methods, is individuals' religious and spiritual beliefs (Hook et al, 2010). Individuals' religious beliefs, given their influence on choosing coping strategies, can lead to a reduction in the symptoms of depression and accelerate recovery (Murphy et al, 2000). In this context, group counseling has emerged as an effective method for reducing depressive symptoms and enhancing mental health among adolescents. This approach, grounded in Islamic ethical principles and the strengthening of faith, can assist adolescents in facing psychological challenges and enhance their sense of hope and satisfaction.
