[English]

Introduction
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the role of self-esteem and social anxiety in predicting the problematic use of smartphones in first and second secondary school students.

Method
The research sample included 333 students who were selected and examined using a multi-stage random sampling method. To measure the researched variables, the problematic use of smart phone scale (COS, Genaro, 2007), social anxiety questionnaire (SAQ, Jarbak, 1996) and self-esteem questionnaire (RSS, Rosenberg, 1965) were used. Research data were analyzed by Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression methods.

Results
On the other hand, the results of multiple regression analysis showed that 23% of problematic use of smartphones is explained by self-esteem and 51% by social anxiety variable.

Discussion
These findings indicate that self-esteem and social anxiety play a very important role in predicting the problematic use of smartphones in students.
