Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship of age and sex with conservation of number, mass and volume. It was hypothesized that: (1) the older pupils are more able than younger ones regarding the conversation concepts; (2) that children develop conversation of number, mass and volume successively; and (3) there is no significant difference between boy and girl subjects regarding the three conversation concepts. The sample consisted of 180 first. Third and fifth grade a school pupils of the city of Ahvaz who were selected randomly and equally from 6.5 and 10.5 year old populations. Analysis of variance was used as the the statistical method to test the hypotheses. The results supported the first two hypotheses, but the third hypothesis was rejected. It was found that boy subjects preformed significantly better than girls with respect to conservation concepts.

Abstract Tool studies were conducted on two random samples of Ahvaz POWs to examine the relationship of some precaptivity, and postcaptivity variables with posttraumatic a stress disorder (PTSD). The first sample consisted of 84 and the second of 79 Ss. Two objectives were pursued in the first study. On the one hand, we were interested in determining the sample and multiple correlation coefficients of the precaptivity, and captivity variables with PTSD. On the other hand, we wanted to compare the mmpi psychological profiles of POWs with low and high PTSD. In the second study, in addition to the two previous objectives, we wanted to determine the simple and multiple correlations of the postcaptivity variables read PTSD.
In the first study, three of the precaptivity variables showed significant correlations with PTSD, while none of these variables in the second study exhibitted significant correlations. Of the 10 captivity variables,  five were significantly correlated with PTSD in both studies. Furthermore, two other different variables in the first study, and one variable in the second study, also showed significant correlations with PTSD. Of the twelve postcaptivity variables in the second study, only three showed significant correlations with PTSD. The three sets of postcaptivity, captivity, and poscaptivity variables, as well as their combinations, also showed significant multiple correlations with PTSD. The mmpi psychological profiles of POWs with high and low PTSD, where initially different, but eliminating the effects of L, K, and F validity scales vanished these differences completely.

School phobia disorder

Abstract Children show a wide range of fears during their development, some of which are so dramatic and intense that disrupt their normal life. These irrational fears are referred to as phobia. A school phobia is a type of childhood phobia usually associated with refusal from going to school. Since school phobia may lead to the child's poor academic performance, using effective and appropriate therapeutic techniques for it's treatment is essential. A review of literature indicates that a number of factors contribute to the etiology of a school phobia (e.g. , separation anxiety and family disputes). Using a combination of different treatment approaches, particularly drug therapy, family therapy, behaviour therapy and home-based interventions has shown considerable success in the management of this disorder.

Abstract This study was conducted to find out the difference between the social and emotional adaptation of Ahvaz primary students in accelerated and non accelerated programs. It was hypothesized that there was no significant difference in the adaptation of the primary school students in accelerated and nonaccelerated programs. A sample of 150 male and female accelerated and nonaccelerated Ss were selected randomly to participate in this study. Accelerated Ss consisted of those whose acceleration occurred either one or two years before the selection. Nonaccelerated Ss were either in the same grade or in a different grade as the accelerated Ss. The second part of a AAMD adaptive behaviour scale (public school version) was administered to measure the social and emotional adaptation of all the groups. The results showed no significant difference in adaptation of accelerated and nonaccelerated students.   This same result was true for both female and male students and for those who accelerated either one or two years before their selection.

Gh. khojasteh-Mehr,

Abstract the present study investigated the differences between sighted and blind Adolescents regarding their personal and social adjustment. The subjects in this study were 35 blind and 35 sighted male and female Adolescents. Both groups were matched on age, grade levels, and social economic status. California test of personality (CTP) was used as the measure of personality characteristic of both groups. A 2-way analysis of variance did not reveal a significant effect for the group× sex interaction in in 3 personal, social and total adjustment scales. But significant main effects, they're found for personal adjustment (p=0.01), social adjustment (p= 0.0002) and total adjustment (p=0.0006) scales. results also indicated that the differences between the two groups were statistically significant (p= 0.05) regarding eight out of the twelve subscales of CTP.
